Based on a novel by Mikhail Sholokhov. Gregory Melekhov returns home to his village. His heart reaches out to former mistress Aksinya. Natalia, his wife learns about it from Daria and unable to forgive her husband’s betrayal, dies. Grigory and Aksinya run away from the village, leaving the children with their aunt Dunyashka, but the road Aksinya is killed by a Cossack patrol. After losing her, Gregory returned home to his land and to the children.
